CMS announced that it expects to release a final National Coverage Determination (NCD) late next month that will move the PrEP coverage benefit from Medicare Part D to Medicare Part B, and that will provide reimbursement for additional services, including up to seven (7) counseling and seven (7) screenings per year.  CMS will cover PrEP and the additional services without requiring a patient co-payment.  Additional information is available here:  PrEP | CMS.

Pharmacies that are not already enrolled in Part B, and want to provide, or continue to provide PrEP, should enroll.  Instructions for enrollment are here:  Medicare Provider Enrollment Instructions.  CMS projects that the enrollment process will take about 45 days.

CMS will hold a virtual webinar on the NCD on August 22 at 3:30PM ET.  Registration is required:  Webinar Registration – Zoom (zoomgov.com).

RWC-340B had submitted comments to CMS to alert it to the administrative burdens associated with Part B enrollment and claims submission.  While CMS delayed issuing the NCD, it apparently could not find a way to require Part D plans (which are administered through private payers) to waive co-payments and released the NCD requiring PrEP to be covered under Part B.
