President Trump’s 2019 budget request, released on February 12, 2018, included several provisions related to the 340B program. The proposed budget requires all 340B covered entities to report on use of the 340B program savings. In addition, it included a $16 million user fee to be paid by all covered entities to help fund the administration of program. It also proposed modifying “hospitals’ payments for drugs acquired through the 340B drug discount program by rewarding hospitals that provide charity care and reducing payments to hospitals that provide little to no charity care.” HHS Secretary Alex Azar defended the budget before the House Ways and Means Committee this morning and will appear before the Senate Finance Committee and the House Energy and Commerce Committee on Thursday.
